I deployed OpenAssistantGPT for a SaaS team that wanted a knowledge-base-grounded support chatbot on their website without sending customer conversations to a third-party SaaS. The Next.js + Vercel deployment was smooth — about 2 hours from clone-the-repo to working chatbot embedded on the marketing site. The OpenAI Assistant API integration meant we paid OpenAI directly at their rates and avoided the typical SaaS chatbot per-conversation pricing, which at our volume saved real money. Where it loses to SaaS chatbots is the polish layer — the admin UI for managing prompts and knowledge files is functional rather than refined, and there's no built-in analytics on conversations. For technical teams comfortable with GitHub deployments who want cost control and customization, this is a solid open-source pick. For non-technical buyers, SaaS chatbots are easier.
