The autonomous Agent mode in Firebase Studio allows Gemini to work independently on behalf of developers reasoning through tasks, executing terminal commands, and generating entire applications without requiring constant oversight or instruction.

For routine development work such as refactoring components, writing tests, fixing errors, and adding features to existing codebases, Agent mode can complete these tasks as a background process while the developer focuses on higher-level decisions.

For actions that carry irreversible consequences, the system explicitly requests developer confirmation before proceeding.

Firebase Studio's native support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) enables developers to extend their development environment with MCP servers that connect Gemini's AI capabilities to external data sources, APIs, and tools.
