In Capacities, the fundamental unit is the object rather than the document: each object has its own structure, properties, and place in the knowledge network, and objects of the same type share consistent attributes across the system.

A Book object always has an author, rating, and status; a Person object always has a role and relationship context; a Project object always has goals, deadlines, and associated notes. This typed structure makes information consistently queryable and organised without imposing rigid folder hierarchies.

The platform's AI capabilities are integrated at every level: the AI assistant summarises long notes, translates content, critiques writing, continues thoughts, and suggests tags and properties based on content all contextualised to the user's specific knowledge base rather than operating on isolated text.

This contextual AI assistance is more useful than generic AI writing tools because it understands the relationships and context within the user's personal knowledge system.

Smart Queries turn the knowledge base into an active retrieval system: users create persistent query definitions 'all books rated 4+ stars,' 'tasks due this week,' 'notes from meetings with this person' and the system continuously surfaces matching content without manual searching.

The visual knowledge graph maps the entire connected network of objects and links, allowing users to explore their knowledge spatially, spot clusters of related thinking, and identify unexpected connections across different domains.
